008 § Video/Offline § A House For Appa

[The feed comes on and there's a rather good sized pile of junk around Aang. Some rocks and stones and bricks from broken walls, some bits of wood and metal, and a bucket from the mom and pop shop Reno talked about that has some nails and hammers and things.]

Now that the water's gone, I'm gonna make a house for Appa! It's gonna be sorta made of everything, but it'll work!

If anyone wants to help me, they can! Or they can just come by and hang out!

Yup! Oh that's right! You haven't met him! Come on! I'll introduce you! [And he's rushing on over to Appa because Appa loves new friends!]

[She gets closer slowly. She's not too shy, because she loves animal, and this one is Aang's friend, so it has to be gentle, right?

She still knows better than to approach an animal who doesn't know her too fast. She comes within a reasonable radius and waits for Appa to notice her without feeling like he has to come to her if he doesn't want to.]

Hi, Appa.

[Appa looks over at her, possibly because of his name or of the approach of Aang or Hinata, or some combination. He stops grazing at the weeds and comes over to her and sniffs at her.]

[No fruit. Oh well. He can't expect all of Aang's friends here to be able to magically create fruit, now can he? Still, she smells all right and he gives her a friendly little bleat, which is still loud but it's hard to be quiet when you're so big.]

[Aang grins.]

I think he likes you!

C-Can I ... can I come closer?

Yeah! He won't bite!

[She does so, and holds out a hand to touch the fur.]

He's fluffy.

Yeah! It's pretty bad when his winter coat sheds. Then it's fur everywhere. But it's nice to sleep in!

He's not too hot right now ?

[Petpetpet. So fluffy! Hinata is losing all of her shyness as she tries to find a scritchy spot that Appa would like.]

I don't think so. Sky bison are the original airbenders, so if he is, he can make the air move around him and keep himself cool or he can go fly for a while.

[Appa shifts about, helping her find a scritchy spot. He spots when she's on a wonderful spot.]

That's practical.

[Scritch scritch scritch.]

Yeah!

[He grins.] Do you want to sit on him?

[Wide eyes.]

C-Can I really?

Sure! You can climb up him or I can airbend you up! He's really good about people sitting on his neck and head and in the saddle. [And given that he was transporting six people at one point, he has no problem with it.]

I can climb!

[She turns to the bison.]

If you don't mind, Appa.

[Aang grins at her and Appa settles down, so he's a little lower to the ground. He stays very still so she can climb on up.]

I don't think he minds.

[She climbs in with rather more ease than someone who's never done this would have, and then slowly moves to lie down on top of Appa's head in the fluff.

She holds out a hand to scritch him between the eyes.]

Have you ever been on an animal this big?

[Appa bleats when she scritches between his eyes. His eyes slip shut and he resists the urge to tip his head back.]

[She smiles.]

I-I'm a ninja, Aang-kun!

Really? That's so cool!

You didn't know ? I-I'm sorry, I thought I'd told you.

Ah-! [He thinks about it and then blushes.] You might have. [A beat.] It's still cool!

You really think so? I-It's ... well pretty normal where I come from.

Wow. I grew up with monks, so I don't think I met any before.

So there aren't any ninja in your world?

There are, I just never got to know any.
